I love being there to help calm a sleep deprived woman, and give her the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate what is happening to her life. Many mamas can get so caught up with the busy stress, and I can tell once they accept the help, they can relax, if only for a minute, and look on what they are doing. It is so important to me to empower new mamas and let them see just what they are doing. It is a truly amazing and raw time of life that is so often overlooked and hidden. These are the days when she is being most productive of all in her parenting--I like to think I can help her to realize that and enjoy it while baby is so tiny! It doesn't last long.
After working with my first few families, I realize, I LOVE being a postpartum doula! The dynamics between new mama and baby are so amazing to watch. In the midst of sleep deprivation, body aches, fussy times, and emotional hormone rushes, there is nothing that can compare to the intense bonding that is taking place. It can be stressful and trying, but each mama I have come across has been so warm and caring towards their little one. A baby brings such unmeasurable joy, that it is worth anything--ANYTHING. A baby provides such unconditional love; all of a sudden there is this new little guy who relies completely upon you and he just loves you for it. He has done nothing to deserve your love, and yet it just pours out of you like a faucet! New mamas and babies show such an example of pure adoration between two humans. I am so honored to be welcomed into their homes. And whether I am answering questions to reassure mama, encouraging her to follow her intuition, helping her single-handedly nourish her baby through breastfeeding, or just helping around the house so she can bond with her little, it is such a privilege. I can feel the underlying love in the house as soon as I step in. It is always so calm and peaceful when a new baby is in the house. I don't think the mother even always notices it, but it is truly amazing.

Sara you were such a big help when we brought Emma Leigh home. I was nervous, felt alone and was really struggling with breast feeding. I wanted to quit but you supported and encouraged me to keep up the good work. My daughter is almost 3 months and I can say we are breast feeding and bonding thanks to your love and support!!! If baby #2 ever happens - it won't happen without your support!
